Some might say they have found the address for heaven. You haven’t heard? In an alley off the main street in the Gemmayze neighborhood of Beirut, you’ll find the favorite spot of world travelers, digital nomads, creative souls, and minds. It’s called Arthaus, born out of the founders Nabil and Zoe Debs’ passion for culture and arts, one so strong that inspired them to launch their own urban experience, after a life full of traveling and living internationally.

The property is composed out of four Ottoman-era buildings adapted to contemporary vibes, with 25 charming bedrooms and suites, fairytale gardens with a shaded swimming pool, and sandstone terraces. Nabil Debs saw Arthaus as a way of honoring his family’s estate, which has been passed down to him from generation to generation.

Arthaus really is what its name represents: a place that values art and what it symbolizes. As both Zoe and Nabil Debs are passionate art collectors, their own collection that they have been curating for decades can be found on-site, including work by Romanian artist Sandu Darie and Cuban artist Susurro.

They also pride themselves on archeological artifacts and rare books, all in excellent condition, and gorgeous Roman mosaics. One of their near-future plans is to use their space to showcase Lebanese designers, artisans and upcoming talent.

As Beirut has been going through some challenging times for the past few years, Arthaus has also been affected. Eager to launch on the 4th of August 2020, instead of being met with smiles and dining with laughter, the Debses and their guests experienced together the effects of the horrific explosion that killed innocent lives in the city. They worked extremely hard to get back on track and managed to rebuilt surprisingly quickly. In times where all cultural institutions are suffering, they have managed to go on in such a resilient matter, and even help the local communities, by often hosting events and charities.

But not even this gruesome event has diminished Arthaus’ lively and sunny vibe. The place continues to offer incomparable experiences to its guests, including hosting notable festivals Baalbek International Festival and Beiteddine Art Festival. Let’s not forget the elegant rooms, fresh dishes, and exquisite dining experience, with awarded barmen.

What are you waiting for? Is Beirut your next destination or not? Keep in mind that Arhaus is ready to host you in Berkshire, Megeve and soon Havana, as well, all immersed in the perfect combination of traditional and contemporary. Put them on your list!
